F Words: Fest and other adventures

Today is Nov. 7th and I am currently sitting at the Grotto in Houston, TX.  I’m trying my best here to do this timely fashion, I swear.  Anyway, it’s been two weeks since I last posted and I’m going to try to be as accurate as possible. Wish me luck.

October 23rd:  We played the Jinx in Savannah and it was awesome.  Super cool venue.  We spent the day exploring and then ended it with our set which was in between rocknroll bingo.  We also watched horror movies all night at the bar.  It was fantastic.  We ended up crashing with Gil and his roommate from Black Tusk and headed off to Jacksonville in the morning.

October 24th:  Our drive to Jacksonville was uneventful and when we made it to the venue we had found out no one knew what the fuck we were talking about.  We ended up hanging around the bar and making friends.  We met this girl Paola and ended up at her apartment which was across the street from the venue.  Her and her dog gauge were awesome.  With us for the adventure to Paola’s were our new friends Jolie and Fabien (he was from france and has been traveling for the past four years) who we met through the website couchsurfing.org.  For those of you who travel check it out.  It’s a pretty amazing website that allows you to crash with like minded people.  After Paola’s we followed Jolie over to Jacksonville Beach where we went to a Magic Mushroom.  It was a crazy night.  We ended up back at Jolie’s around 2 am and crashed there for about 2.5 hours.  She was flying to L.A. that morning so after dropping Fabien off we headed for a rest area to sleep a few hours.

October 25th:  We woke up about 9 am at the rest stop and quickly decided on a game plan.  Our tour manager Richie had a friend in Sarasota which was about 45 minutes outside tampa so we decided that was our best bet.  We reached Sarasota at about 2:30 and were introduced to Bill and Jill.  They were awesome.  We ended up staying with bill for a few days and his band is killer. Check them out, they are called the Upshots.  After some food we headed to the venue in tampa.  It was a good show and a few of the guys we played with ended up coming to see us at fest.  After the show we headed back to Bill’s.

October 26th: Some time in the after noon we all decided to wake up and headed over to a guitar center for a quick practice.  After the rehearsal we headed to the venue in Pompano beach to play with bill’s band.  The show was awesome and we saw some old friends from when Zach and I went to college.  After the set we headed back to Bill’s to hang and enjoy our day off.

October 27th:  Being in Florida on our day off we decided that it would be ridiculous to miss out on the beaches.  We woke up and headed of to the beach.  It was beautiful.  We ended up in the water attempting to catch fish for about 45 min.  It was a good day

October 28th:  Not wanting to be a burden on Bill we started our drive to Pampano beach.  We ended up stopping in Port Charlotte and staying with our friends Rachel and Ken who we had seen two nights prior at the show.  Rachel was an awesome hostess and cooked us all dinner.  After dinner we watched “A Cabin In The Woods” and I would highly recommend it.  It was hilarious.

October 29th:  Pompano Beach!  We had a good a show and ended up meeting some more people who we would see at fest.  We ended up crashing with this dude Johnny from the Ol’ Dirty Stayouts at his storage unit.  It was an awesome space.  He runs a record label out of there.  We also saw a FUCKING ALLIGATOR.  On our way to Pompano Beach there were a couple alligators chilling at gas station.

October 30th:  Today was Rabbit Foot Records, a record store in Titusville, FL.  Along with being a record store they also cut vinyl records.  We got there super early and hung around for a while waiting for the show.  We were skeptical at first because we were the only band on the show but luckily for us Titusville as an incredible music community.  About 20 people came out to a record store on a wednesday nigh to listen to a band they had never heard of.  It was incredible.  Also Bill from Sarasota surprised us and came to the show!

October 31st:  FEST!!!! Day one of fest and it was awesome.  We checked in and decided to check out Gainesville.  It was an awesome city.  During our exploration we stopped over to say whatsup to our bud’s in The Bouncing Souls before their set and also ran into our bud’s in The Mom’s and our friend max.  We say The Holy Mess, Red City Radio, Tim Barry, The Menzingers, and the Bouncing Souls.  After the show we ended up in kitchen of Loosey’s with the Souls, Mark Stern from Youth Brigade and bunch of others. It was a crazy night.

Nov 1st:  More Festing.  We saw Mikey Erg, The Flatliners, Teenage Bottle Rockets, A Wilhelm Scream and a few others.  Also, hector got shit faced.

Nov 2nd:  We were all collectively dead from the past two days.  We met up with our bud’s in OC45 and saw our friend Brian McGee of Plow United play a solo set.  Early bed time.

Nov 3rd:  We had a killer show at 1982, one of my favorites of tour so far.  It was over all an awesome day.  That morning we got to see FILMAGE and then ended the night with an incredible set by ALL

Nov 4th:  Studio!  It’s a secret.  We will tell you about it later.

Nov 5th: Pensacola, FL.  We played a hardcore show with Code Orange Kids.  It was weird.  Apparently the water is no good to drink because of chemical dumping by Monsanto.  Oh the world we live in.  We shot to a rest stop and had a good nights sleep in the van.

Nov 6th:  After two weeks-ish we finally made it out of Florida.  We played the Scout Bar in Houston with Grizzly Band.  They killed it.  The venue was beautiful too.  We had our own dressing room with a shower and all.  The high life!

I’ll let you know how the show goes!  I’m also going to be posting a shit load of pictures so look out for those.

Spring Tour 2013

So as some of you may or may not know we are currently on tour with our good friends in The Scandals.  Zach and I have known Jared since we were 15 and we played some of our earliest shows with The Scandals when we were in high school.  A couple years and few band members later here we are.

I tried keeping a tour diary when we went out in november and I did a pretty good job until the end.  I’m gonna make an attempt at a tour diary round two so here it goes.  I’m going to recap the 2nd through the 9th in 160 characters or less, maybe.

March 2nd - Met the new lineup of The Scandals, played an awesome show in Easton, Pa.  Super cool city by the way.  We then drove to my parents in Bel Air, MD.

March 3rd - Woke up in beds, showered and was fed by my parents.  Real tour has not started yet,  we are living to well.  Played a bunch of covers, did some bonding and went to the show.  Played Club K in Baltimore, did Saki bombs.  The Scandals went to Virginia, we went back to my parents.

March 4 th - Hung out, Suged it up and ate a good meal.  Real tour starts tomorrow.

March 5th - Scotty from Death To False Hope Records set up an awesome show for us in Durham, NC.  South Hospitality at it’s finest.  Steve the bartender took amazing care of us.  We then partied with all the bands on the show, Jimmy pulled out his dick, and we crashed.  Two in the van two in the house.  Real tour.

March 6th - Radio Room, SC.  Amazing.  Best show of tour for sure.  The Suge made an appearance, shit got weird and we got drunk.

March 7th - Party in Atlanta at Jake’s house.  Good times.  More beds and showers.  We are truly blessed with amazing family

March 8th - Squeaky Lizard in Ocean Springs MS.  Great show.  All tour bands but kids heard punk bands were playing and came out.  Faith restored in humanity.  We then slept in the venue.  It’s true, everyone is nicer down here.

March 9th - Gambling in Biloxi.  I lost a lot of money.  Off to New Orleans were we played to a bachelorette party and saw some friends.  Bourban street for everyone but me.  I feel like shit and am in a bed.

Wish me luck on the rest of the days.  Good Night

Nick

Natural Disastour 2012 // Day 5, 6, 7

Okay so I have completely been slacking on tour posts the last few days so here’s what I’m gonna do. This post is going to contain day 5, 6, and 7 in a little bit more of a condensed version, so here I go!

Day 5

Last night was our last night in the Red Roof Inn in Springfield. After a couple hours of sleep we got up, got our shit together and bounced. We had heard about an awesome place to eat called Charlie Parker’s.

It was in an old plane hanger and it had a retro vibe. It was pretty awesome and the food was delicious.

After Charlie Parker’s we headed into Springfield and had no idea what the fuck to do. We ended driving past this place called the Celtic Mist and we stopped in because we had spoken to the bar manager Monday night about us playing there on Thursday. He was still into the idea and he gave us keys to a beautiful apartment up above the bar.

After the bar we decided to go see Honest Abe’s house. This was the house he lived in before taking the trip to the White House. It was awesome. The whole street he lived on was basically untouched. It was really cool.

After Lincoln’s house we headed over to the apartment and watched some movies and rested up before we headed over to an open mic night.

We met up with Bis at the open mic and hung there for a bit before heading to the apartment to crash. Over all not a crazy night, but it was fun.

Day 6

We woke up at around 12 with a million tickets on the van because of the stupid fucking parking meters.

We were pretty hungry and went to this place called La Bamba that Bis told us about. Their slogan is “burritos as big as your head”.  The food was really good, apparently they are a chain in the Midwest.

After food we headed to the municipality to deal with the tickets. We were pretty fucked for the over time parking on the meters but we are fighting a no parking ticket. After the nonsense we headed to the apartment for a nap and watched the first and second Matrix movies.

After hanging out we headed to a highschool to see Bis and his cousin coach at their basketball game. We had nothing else to do and figured we would come out to support. After the game we headed back to the apartment to get ready for our show. The show went well and Bis and a few people that had seen us play throughout the week were there. It was a good night.

Day 7

We headed to Chicago today and had the best show of tour, in my opinion. Once we arrived in Chicago we went to this kid EJ’s house to hang before the show. He had hooked us up with the show last minute and his bands The Ridgedales and Nightcaps were on the bill.

We hung for a while at his place and we found out he used to be the drumtech for Mest. He was a cool dude. We eventually decided we needed food and hit up this pizza place and got some Chicago deep dish. It was awesome.

The show at Slackers was awesome. The room was packed and we were super well received, all the bands killed it too! My favorite however were Nightcaps. They were amazing. After the show we started our drive to St. Louis and found a hotel room to crash in for a few hours.

Lemmons tomorrow!

Natural Disastour 2012 // Day 4
Laundry time!
I got up this morning at around 1045 to do some laundry. When we left I had more dirty than clean clothes with me because of the hurricane. I walked over to the gas station across the street to buy myself some detergent and when I arrived at the front desk of the hotel I was informed that the hotel’s washing machine was broken…because that’s how this tour has been going.
The lady at the front desk directed me to a laundromat so I headed there. Laundry mats in Indianapolis are super depressing, at least The Maury Show was on.
I finished washing my clothes and headed back to the hotel. Oh, and the laundry mat had a tanning salon in it. Ridiculous.
After our check out we headed off to Springfield, IL. The drive was easy and we got to Springfield early because we had the time change. Since we got there early we explored and got to see some Lincoln history. His law office was down the street from the venue.
The show at Bar None was pretty awesome. We met a lot of cool people and had a great night. We played a killer set and sold a whole bunch of merch.
After the show we made our way to a Red Roof hotel were we will be holding up for a few days. We met a few bar owners last night and some kids that were really amped about us that are going to try to hook us up with shows.
Wish us luck!!! Also, don’t forget to vote! We are pretty excited to be in Illinois during the election…that should let you know where we lean.

Natural Disastour 2012 // Day 3

After last night’s adventures, we awoke in dire need of some food. We said our goodbyes to Natasha, and JCK brought us to this place called Lindsay’s. The crowd was a combination of older folks and church goers aka we totally didn’t fit in but the food was awesome. I had some cheese cake.
It was a good morning.
We dropped JCK off at his house and headed off to Indiana. The drive was long and through nothingness until we reached Indy’s Jukebox around 6:30. We got some Chinese food and waited for the show to start.
A local radio station reached out prior to the show and was there to record our whole set, so look out for that in the coming months!
After the show, we shot over to a Ramada Inn and watched the Walking Dead. It was a good day.
Bar None in Springfield, IL tomorrow night!
